Cataract Trail - Down and back with the water turned on

The Cataract Trail has been on my to-do list for several years.  It is a steep trail along a stream that cascades down a canyon in Marin County, and is known for the waterfalls.  Problem is that the falls only run during the rainy season, and we have been in a drought.  This year I am training for a trek on the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu (5 days of Glamping at elevation), and with the rain, decided to seek out the Cataract  Trail.

All the hype about this trail is well deserved, and I'll just let the pictures tell the story.

The trail is narrow and steep, but each step brings another riffle or waterfall, and there are several picturesque wooden bridges that make the trail even more delightful.

The landscape is definitely dynamic, and the downed tree we encountered hadn't been there long!  We let some 30-somethings scramble over it first.  I was the last of the group to clamber over, it is so considerate that they waited!
Downed trees were not limited to the trail.  The Fairfax-Bolinas Road was blocked at the Alpine Lake Dam - the turnaround point for our hike.
In fact, this scene was featured on the 10 o'clock news!
